A fascinating and interesting group of medals and personal items awarded to Assistant Nurse (Miss) Daisy Maud Randle who joined the 2nd London General on the 27th July 1915 until 7th July 1916. British War Medal & Victory Medal with Oak leaf (D.M. RANDLE. V.A.D,), Medal Miniatures British War Medal and Victory Medal with Oak leaf. Dog Tags, Brown Tag (DAISY M. RANDALL. V.A.D. C.E. 13) and Tan Tag (D. M. RANDLE C.E. 13 VAD). Small Wooden Elephant Motif Paper Clip. Red Cross Armband Stamped inside (ARMY MEDICAL SERVICE 13 8-JUL 1916). She later entered the French Theatre of Operations in France joining the 24th General Hospital (Red Cross Hospital) in Etaples as part of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) on the 8th July 1916. She served with the 24th General Hospital until her demobilisation on the 8th April 1919 whilst carrying out numerous nursing duties. During her time with the Volunteer Aid Detachment she qualified in First Aid and Home Nursing and awarded 2 scarlet efficiency stripes and promotion to Acting Nurse on July 1918. She was also mentioned in despatches on 10th July 1919 by Sir Douglas Haig as deserving special mention whilst serving with the 24th General Hospital as Assistant Nursing Member. It should be mentioned that during her service in France the hospital came under attack by German bombing as a result several Patience and Nurses were killed.
