Awarded to Private Harold Birch of the Royal Lancashire Regiment, Killed in Action. British War Medal (7228 PTE. H. BIRCH. R. LANC. R.). Served in France and on the 6th September 1917 Private Harold Birch was with the 1st/5th Lancashire Fusiliers was based in Borry Farm as part of the Out Post on the Frontline D25. It was here that the regiment was involved in heavy fighting and received enemy artillery fire in which the Regimental War Diary explains there were many casualties sustained by machine gun fire in the enemy engagement. It was here that Private Harold Birch was Killed in Action on the 6th September 1917. He is remembered with Honour at Tyne Cot Cemetery. (with copy MIC, medal roll, CWGC, War Diary)
