Awarded to Private George Cave of the 1st Northampton Regiment. 1914 Star & Mons Clasp ‘5th AUG.-22nd NOV. 1914’ (7554 PTE. G. CAVE. 1/NORTH’N. R.), British War Medal & Victory Medal (7554 PTE. G. CAVE. NORTH’N. R.). Served French Theatre of Operations entering 12th August 1914. Later captured, taken ‘Prisoner of War’ (POW) on the 5th November 1914 of that year. Held POW at Merseberg in Germany.  Released and returned to England on the 2nd January 1919.  Private George Cave was a career soldier enlisting with the Northampton Regiment on the 29th October 1904. He was interested in early service history as he was regularly entered into the Regimental Conduct Sheet, Army Form B.120. He was reported as drunk in barracks and absence and apprehended by Military Police in local town for improper conduct whilst with the 2nd Battalion Northampton Regiment. Records report that he was discharged from service on the 31st March 1920. Please note confirmation of capture and imprisonment is noted in service record.
